All Compost Sites Closed on Memorial Day
In observance of Memorial Day, the Valparaiso, Boone Grove and Portage Compost Sites as well as our office will be closed on Monday, May 30th.

Visit a Compost Site

Recycle a wide range of household items, drop off organic yard waste, pick up mulch and compost, and more! Select a location to learn more; note that the Boone Grove and Portage Compost Sites are closed for the season between December and March.

Where Can I Recycle It?

Whether you have coffee cans full of used batteries, a collection of old eyeglasses, a pile of tires, or something else to dispose of, we can help. Discover drop-off locations for some of our most requested items and search our directory for more unusual items.

Education

Porter County Recycling offers educational, interactive programs designed to help adults and children learn about topics ranging from recycling to composting to the contributions that insects make in breaking down waste. Our K-8 programs are free to Porter County Schools and meet Indiana State Academic Standards.

Zip-lock bags -- recyclable or not? Good news -- clean, dry zip-lock bags can be dropped off at any of our compost sites, along with plastic bags, bread bags, plastic wrap or produce bags. Gather up your plastic bags (minus softener salt bags) and head on over to either our Valparaiso, Portage, or Boone Grove compost site. Get directions: https://loom.ly/t_rg_UU
