The Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction District is proud to announce the winners of our “America Recycles Day” art competition for Middle and High School students. America Recycles Day, officially observed on Nov. 15 th, is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to share their commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future through simple every day actions like recycling. Earlier this year the Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction District asked local students to create designs that could help inspire people to take a lead role in conserving their environment.
This year’s 3 winners are (in no particular order) Allyson Schmitt, Grade 6, of St. Patrick School; Shane Hattabaugh, Grade 6, of Victory Christian Academy; and Sydney Muhammad, Grade 7, of Nativity of Our Savior School.
The winning artworks will be displayed on billboards across Porter County at the following dates/locations:
· PORTAGE: Nov. 4-10, U.S. 6 north side 1.5 miles east of Willowcreek Rd.
· CHESTERTON: Nov. 11-17, State Road 49, west side .25 miles north of County Road 1100N
· VALPARAISO: Nov. 18-24, U.S. 30 south side east of State Rd. 2
· VALPARAISO: Nov. 25- Dec. 1, State Road 130, south side west of County Road 250W
