Treated lumber doesn’t belong in your compost pile. Why? Treated lumber is often processed with harsh chemicals. As treated lumber gets turned and mixed in with organic material such as tree branches or bushes the chemicals break down and become extremely acidic, this in turn disrupts the PH balance of soils. Acidic compost can be harmful to plants in gardens.
